Our method
AALAMIN helps readers distinguish the Qur'anic text, named translations, editorial observations and later sources - without blending them together or deciding what the reader must believe.
The four kinds of material on this site
- The Qur'anic text. One identified Arabic edition, reproduced and not modified.
- Named translations. Each under its translator's name, with its edition, licence and retrieval date.
- Editorial observations. Written by the AALAMIN Editor, dated, and never presented as translation.
- Later sources. Shown only where their source, edition, translation and usage rights can be verified.
The Arabic Qur'anic text is never rewritten or modified.
How a source is admitted
Availability is not permission. That a text can be downloaded — freely, in bulk, or with an explicit invitation to do so — establishes nothing about whether it may be used. Before anything is ingested, the party who granted the right is named and the words they granted it in are quoted. Where either is missing, the source is not cleared, however freely it is being handed out.
Why these translations
A translation is included because its legal status can be documented. Inclusion is not an endorsement of its accuracy or its authority.
Alignment is measured, never assumed
A source's verse numbering is a claim about that source, not a property of this corpus, and it is checked like any other claim. Every source carries a verified map to this canon; one without a verified map is not ingested. Each rendering is read at the row the source itself prints it at, so a source with no such verse is simply absent rather than showing its neighbour.
What is not here
AALAMIN currently focuses on the Qur'anic text and legally cleared translations. Later-source material will only be displayed when its source, edition, translation and usage rights can be verified.
The per-source record
Every source, edition, custodian, licence, retrieval date and rights decision is recorded in full on the Canon, and the licence of each is shown beside the text it renders. This page states the method; that page is the record.
