As for those who believe and do righteous deeds, they will have the Gardens of Paradise for hospitality.
What does the Qur'an say about the highest garden (al-Firdaws)?
Key findingsEditorial
One finding for each passage this study carries, in the order the study reads them. Each is the reason that passage was signed into the study, in full and unedited - including, where the renderings disagree, the disagreement.
- 01 18:107–108 Those who believe and do good works, theirs are the GARDENS OF PARADISE for welcome, wherein they will abide, with no desire to be removed. In as ONE PASSAGE because the naming and the permanence are one statement, and because this is one of only two places the word Firdaws occurs.
- 02 23:11 Who will INHERIT PARADISE; there they will abide. This verse speaks of paradise as something inherited, by those who will abide there.
- 03 19:63 Such is the Garden which We cause the devout among Our bondmen to INHERIT. In because it repeats the inheritance construction with a different word for the garden, which shows the idiom is not tied to the rare word.
- 04 43:72 This is the Garden which ye are made to inherit BECAUSE OF WHAT YE USED TO DO. In because it attaches the inheritance to conduct, which the two Firdaws verses do not spell out.
- 05 39:74 Praise be to God, Who hath fulfilled His promise unto us and hath made us inherit the land, sojourning in the Garden WHERE WE WILL. In because it is speech from inside - the only verse here reported as the inhabitants' own words - and because of the freedom in its last clause.
In plain wordsEditorial written by the editors, not a translation
The word the question asks about occurs TWICE in the Qur'an, and both times it is plural.
18:107 - the Gardens of Firdaws. 23:11 - they will inherit Firdaws. That is the entire textual base for the idea of a highest garden, and a reader should be told how small it is before anything is built on it.
Neither verse says it is the highest. Neither ranks it above another garden. Neither describes it. 18:107-108 adds only that those there will abide and will not wish to be moved; 23:11 adds only that they abide. The very familiar idea that Firdaws is the topmost level of paradise, beneath the Throne, is - and this study cannot report or assess it, because no hadith collection has cleared the rights audit.
What the verses do share, and what is more interesting than the ranking, is a VERB. 23:11, 19:63 and 43:72 all say the garden is INHERITED. It is the ordinary word for coming into property, and the text uses it of the Garden repeatedly. 43:72 attaches the inheritance to conduct - because of what ye used to do - and 39:74 gives the inheritors' own words: He has made us inherit the land, and we dwell in the Garden WHERE WE WILL.
Twelve verses were dropped, and one pattern in them is worth naming. The four translators render an Arabic expression as the SEQUEL of the Home or a happy JOURNEY'S END, and it matched repeatedly here and in What does the Qur'an say about a good end (husn al-khatima)? It is a formula for the hereafter generally, not for a named garden, and counting it would have tripled this study while adding nothing.
Scope of this study
This platform shows the verse, its easy-read line, its translations, a plain-words reading, and each verse among its neighbours. It does not supply occasion of revelation, interpretation (tafsir) or history, and it never invents them.
What this study does not answer, and which source would be needed. It does not say on what occasion any of these verses was given: this study holds no source whose usage rights can be verified. It does not report how any commentator has read them: this study holds no either - the Arabic of , and is public domain by age, but no English edition with verifiable usage rights exists. And it offers no academic-historical reading: this study holds no such scholarship. Each of those is an absence with a named cause, not an omission.
What this rests on
Opens with 18:107–108, widening across 5 passages in all.
Easy-read is a simplified pronunciation, not authoritative — a rule-by-rule romanisation, not a reading. Each verse ends in its pause form, as it is said when you stop there. Pauses inside a verse and other tajwid rules are not shown. It is derived from the Tanzil Simple edition, while the Arabic above is the Uthmani edition; both are cleared, but they are not the same edition and their orthography differs.
The versesSource fact 5 passages, each with every cleared translation
5 passages, chosen for this question and signed as part of it. Each carries the reason it is here, and each renders in full: the Arabic, then every cleared translation of that verse under its translator's name.
Each verse opens on the translation that comes first in the site's fixed order, which runs from the newest translation to the oldest. The order is not a preference. Open Compare translations on any verse to read the others.

The selection above and this account of it are part of what was signed. Where the renderings disagree it says so; where the question runs past what has cleared the rights audit it says that too.
Read across the four public-domain translations - Sale 1734, Rodwell 1861, Palmer 1880, Pickthall 1930 - of 18:107-108, 23:11, 19:63, 43:72, 39:74, in full, and nothing else. This study consults no , no , no occasion of revelation and no biography, because none is yet available in an edition whose usage rights can be verified. Itani 2012, the fifth translation shown with these verses, was not consulted for this study.
How this set was arrived at. The verses were found by a word search of the four public-domain translations, using terms chosen by the editor and listed here as they were searched - firdaws; gardens + paradise; paradise + abode; inherit + paradise; heirs + paradise. The search was a way of finding passages, not a judgement about what they mean: that several translators chose the same English word is not evidence about the Arabic. A different choice of terms gives a different set.
What was returned and not carried. 12 verse(s) the search qualified are recorded as not carried with a reason each, rather than silently discarded: 5:72 - the subject is exclusion, not the garden's description; 7:43 - on-topic but about the state of the people, not the place; 6:135 - the 'sequel' formula, which returned sixteen off-question verses in the search; 13:22 - the same; 13:24 - the same; 13:42 - the same; 25:24 - a comparison of that day's lodging, not the garden; 28:77 - an instruction about this life; 28:83 - assignment by character, and the 'abode' formula; 29:58 - near-duplicate of 39:74 in substance; 42:22 - a different garden word; adjacent; 79:41 - general.
Where the translations part company, named rather than resolved. How differently the translations word each verse is shown on that verse's page, and the study names the differences it turns on rather than choosing between them.
Correction record, 2026-09-17. At 23:11, a claim that this is the other occurrence of the word and that the verb is the one used of land and property was removed, because no source a reader can check is given for either. The verses shown and their translations are unchanged.

A dashed outline marks a tag the editors handle with extra care. It describes how this study is filed and shown, not what the verses say.
