This Quran could not have been produced by anyone other than God. In fact, it is a confirmation of what preceded it, and an elaboration of the Book. There is no doubt about it-it is from the Lord of the Universe.
Who wrote the Qur'an, and could Muhammad have authored it?
Key findingsEditorial
One finding for each passage this study carries, in the order the study reads them. Each is the reason that passage was signed into the study, in full and unedited - including, where the renderings disagree, the disagreement.
- 01 10:37–38 Itani has "This Quran could not have been produced by anyone other than God", and then records the charge "He has forged it". The answer printed is a challenge: Pickthall has "Then bring a surah like unto it".
- 02 25:4–6 The charge is printed in full. Itani has "a lie that he made up, and others have helped him at it" and "Tales of the ancients; he wrote them down". The answer: Pickthall has "He who knoweth the secret of the heavens and the earth hath revealed it".
- 03 16:103 The charge names a human teacher: Itani has "It is a human being who is teaching him". The answer is about language: Itani has "the tongue of him they allude to is foreign, while this is a clear Arabic tongue".
- 04 2:23 The challenge is put to anyone in doubt: Itani has "if you are in doubt about what We have revealed to Our servant, then produce a chapter like these".
- 05 29:48 The text speaks of the Prophet before it: Itani has "You did not read any scripture before this, nor did you write it down with your right hand". Sale has "Thou couldest not read any book before this".
In plain wordsEditorial written by the editors, not a translation
The five print the charge itself. At 10:38 Itani has "He has forged it". At 25:4-5 Itani has "a lie that he made up, and others have helped him at it" and "Tales of the ancients". At 16:103 Itani has "It is a human being who is teaching him".
The five also print the text's answer to each charge. At 10:37 Itani has "This Quran could not have been produced by anyone other than God". At 25:6 Pickthall has "He who knoweth the secret of the heavens and the earth hath revealed it". At 16:103 the answer is about language: the man hinted at speaks a foreign tongue, and this is clear Arabic.
Twice the answer is a challenge. At 2:23 Itani has "produce a chapter like these", and at 10:38 Pickthall has "Then bring a surah like unto it". At 29:48 Itani has "You did not read any scripture before this".
So the text prints both sides: the charge, in the words of those who made it, and its own claim to come from God. Whether a person could have composed it is a question of history. That is outside these five renderings, and this study does not weigh it.
Scope of this study
This platform shows the verse, its easy-read line, its translations, a plain-words reading, and each verse among its neighbours. It does not supply occasion of revelation, interpretation (tafsir) or history, and it never invents them.
What this rests on
Opens with 10:37–38, widening across 5 passages in all.
Easy-read is a simplified pronunciation, not authoritative — a rule-by-rule romanisation, not a reading. Each verse ends in its pause form, as it is said when you stop there. Pauses inside a verse and other tajwid rules are not shown. It is derived from the Tanzil Simple edition, while the Arabic above is the Uthmani edition; both are cleared, but they are not the same edition and their orthography differs.
The versesSource fact 5 passages, each with every cleared translation
5 passages, chosen for this question and signed as part of it. Each carries the reason it is here, and each renders in full: the Arabic, then every cleared translation of that verse under its translator's name.
Each verse opens on the translation that comes first in the site's fixed order, which runs from the newest translation to the oldest. The order is not a preference. Open Compare translations on any verse to read the others.

Most of them follow nothing but assumptions; and assumptions avail nothing against the truth. God is fully aware of what they do.
Most of them follow not but conjecture. Assuredly conjecture can by no means take the place of truth. Lo! Allah is Aware of what they do
But most of them follow only suspicion; verily, suspicion does not avail against the truth at all; verily, God knows what they do
And most of them follow only a conceit: - But a conceit attaineth to nought of truth! Verily God knoweth what they say

In fact, they deny what is beyond the limits of their knowledge, and whose explanation has not yet reached them. Thus those before them refused to believe. So note the consequences for the wrongdoers.
Nay, but they denied that, the knowledge whereof they could not compass, and whereof the interpretation (in events) hath not yet come unto them. Even so did those before them deny. Then see what was the consequence for the wrong-doers
Yet they call that a lie, the knowledge of which they cannot compass, while its interpretation has not yet come to them; so did those before them charge with lying, and see what was the end of the unjust
But that which they embrace not in their knowledge have they charged with falsehood, though the explanation of it had not yet been given them. So those who were before them brought charges of imposture: But see what was the end of the unjust
But they have charged that with falsehood, the knowledge whereof they do not comprehend, neither hath the interpretation thereof come unto them. In the same manner did those who were before them, accuse their prophets of imposture; but behold, what was the end of the unjust

- Hafs/Kufan verse numbering, 6236 ayahs. The bismillah is delivered as a separate `bismillah` attribute on ayah 1 and is NOT fused into the ayah text. 112 surahs carry one: every surah except al-Fatiha, where the bismillah is ayah 1:1 itself, and at-Tawba, which has none. Sourced from the XML output; the plain-text output of the same release DOES fuse it, which is defect D1.
CLEARED. Licence read verbatim from the block embedded in this very file. Ingested exactly as shipped: no normalisation, no stripping of marks, no Unicode recomposition.

And do not argue with the People of the Scripture except in the best manner possible, except those who do wrong among them. And say, "We believe in what was revealed to us, and in what was revealed to you; and our God and your God is One; and to Him we are submissive."
And argue not with the People of the Scripture unless it be in (a way) that is better, save with such of them as do wrong; and say: We believe in that which hath been revealed unto us and revealed unto you; our Allah and your Allah is One, and unto Him we surrender
And do not wrangle with the people of the Book, except for what is better; save with those who have been unjust amongst them and who say, 'We believe in what is sent down to us, And what has been sent down to you; our God and your God is one, and we are unto Him resigned
Dispute not, unless in kindly sort, with the people of the Book; save with such of them as have dealt wrongfully with you: And say ye, "We believe in what hath been sent down to us and hath been sent down to you. Our God and your God is one, and to him are we self-surrendered" (Muslims)
Dispute not against those who have received the scriptures, unless in the mildest manner; except against such of them as behave injuriously towards you: And say, we believe in the revelation which hath been sent down unto us, and also in that which hath been sent down unto you; our God and your God is one, and unto Him are we resigned

The translators word this verse differently
Likewise, We revealed to you the Scripture. Those to whom We gave the Scripture believe in it, and some of these believe in it. None renounce Our communications except the disbelievers.
In like manner We have revealed unto thee the Scripture, and those unto whom We gave the Scripture aforetime will believe therein; and of these (also) there are some who believe therein. And none deny Our revelations save the disbelievers
Thus did we send down to thee the Book; and every one to whom we have given the Book believes therein. But these will not believe therein; though none gainsay our signs except the misbelievers
Thus have we sent down the Book of the Koran to thee: and they to whom we have given the Book of the law believe in it: and of these Arabians there are those who believe in it: and none, save the Infidels, reject our signs
Thus have We sent down the book of the Koran unto thee: And they unto whom We have given the former scriptures, believe therein; and of these Arabians also there is who believeth therein: And none reject our signs, except the obstinate infidels
29:48 — the verse above

In fact, it is clear signs in the hearts of those given knowledge. No one renounce Our signs except the unjust.
But it is clear revelations in the hearts of those who have been given knowledge, and none deny Our revelations save wrong-doers
Nay, but it is evident signs in the breasts of those who are endued with knowledge, and none but the unjust would gainsay our signs
But it is a clear sign in the hearts of those whom "the knowledge" hath reached. None except the wicked reject our signs
But the same is evident signs in the breasts of those who have received understanding: For none reject our signs, except the unjust

And they said, "If only a miracle from his Lord was sent down to him." Say, "Miracles are only with God, and I am only a clear warner."
And they say: Why are not portents sent down upon him from his Lord? Say: Portents are with Allah only, and I am but a plain warner
They say, 'Unless there be sent down upon him signs from his Lord -;' say, 'Verily, signs are with God, and, verily, I am an obvious warner
And they say, "Unless a sign be sent down to him from his Lord. . . ." SAY: Signs are in the power of God alone. I am only a plain spoken warner
They say, unless a sign be sent down unto him from his Lord, we will not believe. Answer, signs are in the power of God alone; and I am no more than a public preacher
What this study rests on, and what it refusessigned with it1 of the 1 paragraphs signed with this study
The selection above and this account of it are part of what was signed. Where the renderings disagree it says so; where the question runs past what has cleared the rights audit it says that too.
The anchors are the verses that print the charge that the Prophet made the text up or was taught it (10:38, 25:4-5, 16:103), and the verses that print the text's answer (10:37, 25:6, 2:23, 29:48). Each charge verse is carried with its answer. This study does not answer who wrote the Qur'an as a question of history. Weighing that would need manuscripts, biography and other records, which are outside these five renderings and are not shown on this platform.
