And the Trumpet will be sounded, whereupon everyone in the heavens and the earth will be stunned, except whomever God wills. Then it will be sounded another time, whereupon they will rise up, looking on.
What does the Qur'an say about the trumpet blast?
Key findingsEditorial
One finding for each passage this study carries, in the order the study reads them. Each is the reason that passage was signed into the study, in full and unedited - including, where the renderings disagree, the disagreement.
- 01 39:68 And the trumpet is blown, and all who are in the heavens and the earth SWOON AWAY, save him whom God willeth. THEN IT IS BLOWN A SECOND TIME, and behold them standing waiting. In because it is the only verse that gives TWO blasts and says what each does, and because of the exception clause - save whom God willeth - in the middle of a universal statement.
- 02 27:87 And the Day when the Trumpet will be blown, and all who are in the heavens and the earth will START IN FEAR, save him whom God willeth; and all come unto Him, humbled. In because it repeats the same exception in different words, which makes it deliberate rather than incidental.
- 03 36:51 And the trumpet is blown, and lo, from the graves they hie unto their Lord. This verse joins the blowing of the trumpet to the emptying of the graves in one line.
- 04 23:101 And when the trumpet is blown there will be NO KINSHIP among them that day, nor will they ask of one another. In because it states a social consequence rather than a physical one, which none of the others do.
- 05 20:102–104 The day when the Trumpet is blown - on that day We assemble the guilty white-eyed with terror, murmuring among themselves: ye have tarried but ten days. In as ONE PASSAGE because the murmur about how long they tarried is the only place the text lets the raised estimate the interval, which bears directly on barzakh.
- 06 78:18 A day when the trumpet is blown and ye come IN MULTITUDES. In because it is the shortest form and gives the scale.
In plain wordsEditorial written by the editors, not a translation
The trumpet is blown often in this text, and the verses are remarkably uniform. Two of them are not.
39:68 is the one that carries real information. The trumpet is blown and everyone in the heavens and the earth SWOONS - and then, THE SECOND TIME, they are standing and looking. Two blasts, with different effects, in one verse. It is the only place the text numbers them.
The exception in the middle of it is the other striking thing: SAVE HIM WHOM GOD WILLETH. A universal statement with an unexplained exemption, and 27:87 repeats the exemption in different words - all will start in fear, save whom God willeth. Two verses, two phrasings, same reservation. The text does not say who is exempt.
23:101 gives a consequence none of the others do, and it is social rather than cosmic: NO KINSHIP among them that day, and no one asks after anyone else. The blast dissolves relationships.
20:103 lets the raised speak, and what they say bears on a different question entirely: YE HAVE TARRIED BUT TEN DAYS. Whatever the interval between death and the blast is, the people coming out of it in this verse badly misjudge its length. That belongs beside barzakh, which finds the text otherwise silent on the interval.
One drop should be flagged rather than buried. 69:13 says the trumpet sounds ONE blast, where 39:68 has two. This study records it as a drop because its passage is a general description of the Day, but the tension is real.
Scope of this study
This platform shows the verse, its easy-read line, its translations, a plain-words reading, and each verse among its neighbours. It does not supply occasion of revelation, interpretation (tafsir) or history, and it never invents them.
What this study does not answer, and which source would be needed. It does not say on what occasion any of these verses was given: this study holds no source whose usage rights can be verified. It does not report how any commentator has read them: this study holds no either - the Arabic of , and is public domain by age, but no English edition with verifiable usage rights exists. And it offers no academic-historical reading: this study holds no such scholarship. Each of those is an absence with a named cause, not an omission.
What this rests on
Opens with 39:68, widening across 6 passages in all.
Easy-read is a simplified pronunciation, not authoritative — a rule-by-rule romanisation, not a reading. Each verse ends in its pause form, as it is said when you stop there. Pauses inside a verse and other tajwid rules are not shown. It is derived from the Tanzil Simple edition, while the Arabic above is the Uthmani edition; both are cleared, but they are not the same edition and their orthography differs.

They have not esteemed God as He ought to be esteemed. The entire earth will be in His grip on the Day of Resurrection, and the heavens will be folded in His righ. Immaculate is He, and Transcendent He is beyond the associations they make.
And they esteem not Allah as He hath the right to be esteemed, when the whole earth is His handful on the Day of Resurrection, and the heavens are rolled in His right hand. Glorified is He and High Exalted from all that they ascribe as partner (unto Him)
And they do not value God at His true value; while the earth all of it is but a handful for Him on the resurrection day, and the heavens shall be rolled up in His right hand! Celebrated be His praise! and exalted be He above what they associate with Him
But they have not deemed of God as is His due; for on the resurrection day the whole Earth shall be but his handful, and in his right hand shall the Heavens be folded together. Praise be to Him! and high be He uplifted above the partners they join with Him

And you see the mountains, and imagine them fixed, yet they pass, as the passing of the clouds-the making of God, who has perfected everything. He is fully Informed of what you do.
And thou seest the hills thou deemest solid flying with the flight of clouds: the doing of Allah Who perfecteth all things. Lo! He is Informed of what ye do
And thou shalt see the mountains, which thou dost deem solid, pass away like the passing of the clouds;- the work of God who orders all things; verily, He is well aware of what ye do
And thou shalt see the mountains, which thou thinkest so firm, pass away with the passing of a cloud! 'Tis the work of God, who ordereth all things! of all that ye do is He well aware
And thou shalt see the mountains, and shalt think them firmly fixed; but they shall pass away, even as the clouds pass away. This will be the work of God, who hath rightly disposed all things: And He is well acquainted with that which ye do

What this study rests on, and what it refusessigned with it6 of the 7 paragraphs signed with this study; the paragraph naming what it does not answer is at the top of the page
The selection above and this account of it are part of what was signed. Where the renderings disagree it says so; where the question runs past what has cleared the rights audit it says that too.
Read across the four public-domain translations - Sale 1734, Rodwell 1861, Palmer 1880, Pickthall 1930 - of 39:68, 27:87, 36:51, 23:101, 20:102-104, 78:18, in full, and nothing else. This study consults no , no , no occasion of revelation and no biography, because none is yet available in an edition whose usage rights can be verified. Itani 2012, the fifth translation shown with these verses, was not consulted for this study.
How this set was arrived at. The verses were found by a word search of the four public-domain translations, using terms chosen by the editor and listed here as they were searched - trumpet; blast; horn + blown. The search was a way of finding passages, not a judgement about what they mean: that several translators chose the same English word is not evidence about the Arabic. A different choice of terms gives a different set.
What was returned and not carried. 5 verse(s) the search qualified are recorded as not carried with a reason each, rather than silently discarded: 6:73 - the subject is sovereignty; near-identical trumpet clause; 18:99 - near-identical to 36:51 in function; 50:20 - near-identical and adds nothing; 69:13 - on-topic and interesting - ONE blast, against 39:68's two. Not carried only because the surrounding passage is a description of the Day, although it bears on the number of blasts; 74:8 - a fragment introducing a warning.
Verses carried by more than one study. Some passages here also serve another study. Each carries its own reason in each place, and the reason states where else it appears.
Where the translations part company, named rather than resolved. How differently the translations word each verse is shown on that verse's page, and the study names the differences it turns on rather than choosing between them.
Correction record, 2026-09-17. At 36:51, the reason said another study carries this verse, which it does not; the cross-reference was removed. The verses shown and their translations are unchanged.
