Say, "O My devotees who have believed, keep your duty to your Lord. For those who do good in this world, is goodness. And God's earth is vast. The steadfast will be paid their wages in full, without reckoning."
What does the Qur'an promise the patient - a reward 'in full, without account'?
Key findingsEditorial
One finding for each passage this study carries, in the order the study reads them. Each is the reason that passage was signed into the study, in full and unedited - including, where the renderings disagree, the disagreement.
- 01 39:10 Say: O My bondmen who believe, observe your duty to your Lord. For those who do good in this world there is good, and God's earth is spacious. VERILY THE STEADFAST WILL BE PAID THEIR WAGES WITHOUT STINT. In because it is the only verse in the Qur'an attaching this phrase specifically to the steadfast, and because what precedes it - God's earth is spacious - suggests the patience in view includes leaving a place that has become impossible.
- 02 2:155–157 But give glad tidings to the steadfast - who say, when a misfortune striketh them: we are God's and unto Him we are returning. Such are they on whom are blessings from their Lord, and mercy. SUCH ARE THE RIGHTLY GUIDED. DECLARED DUAL-PLACEMENT from the studies What does the Qur'an say about facing the death of a loved one? and What does the Qur'an say about being tested with fear, hunger and loss? In because it is the other place a promise is attached to endurance and it names three things, not one.
- 03 13:22–24 Such as persevere in seeking their Lord's countenance and are regular in prayer... theirs will be the sequel of the (heavenly) Home: Gardens of Eden which they enter, along with all who do right of their fathers and their helpmeets and their seed. THE ANGELS ENTER UNTO THEM FROM EVERY GATE, (SAYING): PEACE BE UNTO YOU BECAUSE YE PERSEVERED. In as ONE PASSAGE because the greeting in 13:24 names perseverance as the ground, and because the promise extends to the family.
- 04 25:75–76 They will be awarded the high place forasmuch as THEY WERE STEADFAST, and they will meet therein with welcome and the word of peace. In as ONE PASSAGE because it makes steadfastness the stated ground of the highest award.
In plain wordsEditorial written by the editors, not a translation
One verse says it, and its setting is worth as much as the promise.
39:10: O MY BONDMEN WHO BELIEVE, OBSERVE YOUR DUTY TO YOUR LORD. For those who do good in this world there is good - AND GOD'S EARTH IS SPACIOUS. VERILY THE STEADFAST WILL BE PAID THEIR WAGES WITHOUT STINT.
The clause about the spacious earth sits between the exhortation and the promise, and it is not decorative. In its context it is an argument for leaving - the earth is wide, you need not stay where you cannot practise. The patience being rewarded in that verse is not necessarily the patience of staying put.
The phrase itself - WITHOUT STINT, without measure, without reckoning - is the same one What does the Qur'an mean by a reward 'without measure' (bi-ghayri hisab)? examines, and it carries both senses: unlimited, and unaudited.
Three further passages attach promises to endurance and none of them is a bare wage.
2:155-157 gives THREE things to the steadfast: blessings from their Lord, mercy, and - the last one - SUCH ARE THE RIGHTLY GUIDED. Guidance is named as part of what endurance receives.
13:24 is the most striking. The angels come in from every gate with a greeting, and the greeting names the reason: PEACE BE UNTO YOU BECAUSE YE PERSEVERED. And 13:23 has already said the Gardens are entered ALONG WITH those who did right of their fathers, their spouses and their offspring.
25:75 makes steadfastness the ground of the high place itself.
The study What does the Qur'an say about patience through trial? carries the practice; this one carries what is promised for it.
Scope of this study
This platform shows the verse, its easy-read line, its translations, a plain-words reading, and each verse among its neighbours. It does not supply occasion of revelation, interpretation (tafsir) or history, and it never invents them.
What this study does not answer, and which source would be needed. It does not say on what occasion any of these verses was given: this study holds no source whose usage rights can be verified. It does not report how any commentator has read them: this study holds no either - the Arabic of , and is public domain by age, but no English edition with verifiable usage rights exists. And it offers no academic-historical reading: this study holds no such scholarship. Each of those is an absence with a named cause, not an omission.
What this rests on
Opens with 39:10, widening across 4 passages in all.
Easy-read is a simplified pronunciation, not authoritative — a rule-by-rule romanisation, not a reading. Each verse ends in its pause form, as it is said when you stop there. Pauses inside a verse and other tajwid rules are not shown. It is derived from the Tanzil Simple edition, while the Arabic above is the Uthmani edition; both are cleared, but they are not the same edition and their orthography differs.

When some adversity touches the human being, he prays to his Lord, repenting to Him. But then, when He confers on him a grace of His, he forgets what he was praying for before, and he attributes rivals to God, in order to lead astray from His way. Say, "Enjoy your disbelief for a little while; you will be among the inmates of the Fire."
And when some hurt toucheth man, he crieth unto his Lord, turning unto Him (repentant). Then, when He granteth him a boon from Him he forgetteth that for which he cried unto Him before, and setteth up rivals to Allah that he may beguile (men) from his way. Say (O Muhammad, unto such an one): Take pleasure in thy disbelief a while. Lo! thou art of the owners of the Fire
And when distress touches a man he calls his Lord, turning repentant to Him; then when He confers on him a favour from Himself he forgets what he had called upon Him for before, and makes peers for God to lead astray from His way! Safa and Marwa are among the rites of God. Whoever makes the Pilgrimage to the House, or performs the Umrah, commits no error by circulating between them. Whoever volunteers good-God is Appreciative and Cognizant.
Lo! (the mountains) As-Safa and Al-Marwah are among the indications of Allah. It is therefore no sin for him who is on pilgrimage to the House (of Allah) or visiteth it, to go around them (as the pagan custom is). And he who doeth good of his own accord, (for him) lo! Allah is Responsive, Aware
Verily, Zafa and Merwah are of the beacons of God, and he who makes the pilgrimage unto the House, or visits it, it is no crime for him to compass them both about; and he who obeys his own impulse to a good work,- God is grateful and doth know
Verily, Safa and Marwah are among the monuments of God: whoever then maketh a pilgrimage to the temple, or visiteth it, shall not be to blame if he go round about them both. And as for him who of his own accord doeth what is good - God is Grateful, Knowing
Moreover Safa and Merwah are two of the monuments of God: Whoever therefore goeth on pilgrimage to the temple of Mecca or visiteth it, it shall be no crime in him if he compass them both. And as for him who voluntarily performeth a good work; verily God is grateful and knowing

Those who suppress the proofs and the guidance We have revealed, after We have clarified them to humanity in the Scripture-those-God curses them, and the cursers curse them.
Lo! Those who hide the proofs and the guidance which We revealed, after We had made it clear to mankind in the Scripture: such are accursed of Allah and accursed of those who have the power to curse
Verily, those who hide what we have revealed of manifest signs and of guidance after we have manifested it to men in the Book, them God shall curse, and those who curse shall curse them too
They who conceal aught that we have sent down, either of clear proof or of guidance, after what we have so clearly shewn to men in the Book, God shall curse them, and they who curse shall curse them

13:23 Edens trädgårdar, som de ska träda in i tillsammans med de rättfärdiga bland deras föräldrar, makar och avkomma. Änglarna kommer in till dem från varje port:

As for those who violate the promise to God, after pledging to keep it, and sever what God has commanded to be joined, and spread corruption on earth-these, the curse will be upon them, and they will have the Worst Home.

God dispenses the provisions to whomever He wills, and restricts. And they delight in the worldly life; yet the worldly life, compared to the Hereafter, is only enjoyment.
Allah enlargeth livelihood for whom He will, and straiteneth (it for whom He will); and they rejoice in the life of the world, whereas the life of the world is but brief comfort as compared with the Hereafter
God extends his bounty freely to whomsoever He will, or He metes it out; and they rejoice in the life of this world, but the life of this world is naught but a (temporary) provision compared with the next
God is open-handed with supplies to whom he will, or is sparing. They rejoice in the life that now is, but this present life is but a passing good, in respect of the life to come
God giveth provision in abundance unto whom He pleaseth, and is sparing unto whom He pleaseth. Those of Mecca rejoice in the present life; although the present life, in respect of the future, is but a precarious provision

The translators word this verse differently
Say, "What are you to my Lord without your prayers? You have denied the truth, and the inevitable will happen."
Say (O Muhammad, unto the disbelievers): My Lord would not concern Himself with you but for your prayer. But now ye have denied (the Truth), therefor there will be judgment
Say, 'My Lord cares not for you though you should not call (on Him); and ye have called (the Apostle) a liar, but it shall be (a punishment) which ye cannot shake off
SAY: Not on your account doth my Lord care if ye call not on Him! ye have treated his Apostle as an impostor: but bye and bye a punishment shall cleave to them
Say, my Lord is not solicitous on your account, if ye do not invoke Him: Ye have already charged his apostle with imposture; but hereafter shall there be a lasting punishment inflicted on you

The selection above and this account of it are part of what was signed. Where the renderings disagree it says so; where the question runs past what has cleared the rights audit it says that too.
Read across the four public-domain translations - Sale 1734, Rodwell 1861, Palmer 1880, Pickthall 1930 - of 39:10, 2:155-157, 13:22-24, 25:75-76, in full, and nothing else. This study consults no , no , no occasion of revelation and no biography, because none is yet available in an edition whose usage rights can be verified. Itani 2012, the fifth translation shown with these verses, was not consulted for this study.
How this set was arrived at. The verses were found by a word search of the four public-domain translations, using terms chosen by the editor and listed here as they were searched - steadfast + will + be + paid + their + wages + in + full + without + reckoning; patient + their + reward + without + measure; wages + in + full + without + stint. The search was a way of finding passages, not a judgement about what they mean: that several translators chose the same English word is not evidence about the Arabic. A different choice of terms gives a different set.
Verses carried by more than one study. Some passages here also serve another study. Each carries its own reason in each place, and the reason states where else it appears.
Where the translations part company, named rather than resolved. How differently the translations word each verse is shown on that verse's page, and the study names the differences it turns on rather than choosing between them.
