God has fulfilled His Messenger's vision in truth: "You will enter the Sacred Mosque, God willing, in security, heads shaven, or hair cut short, not fearing. He knew what you did not know, and has granted besides that an imminent victory."
Does the Qur'an treat any dreams as true guidance?
Key findingsEditorial
One finding for each passage this study carries, in the order the study reads them. Each is the reason that passage was signed into the study, in full and unedited - including, where the renderings disagree, the disagreement.
- 01 48:27 GOD HATH FULFILLED THE VISION FOR HIS MESSENGER IN VERY TRUTH. Ye shall indeed enter the Inviolable Place of Worship, if God will, secure. In because it is the only place the Qur'an states outright that a dream was true and was fulfilled, and the dream concerned a specific future event.
- 02 37:102–105 And when he was old enough to walk with him, (Abraham) said: O my dear son, I HAVE SEEN IN A DREAM THAT I MUST SACRIFICE THEE. So look, what thinkest thou?... THOU HAST ALREADY FULFILLED THE VISION. In as ONE PASSAGE because a dream is acted on as a command and then declared fulfilled at the point of willingness. ALSO CARRIED by the study Whom did Abraham nearly sacrifice in the Qur'an - and is the son named?, with a different reason there.
- 03 12:4–6 When Joseph said unto his father: O my father, I SAW IN A DREAM ELEVEN PLANETS AND THE SUN AND THE MOON, I saw them prostrating themselves unto me. He said: O my dear son, tell not thy brethren of thy vision... THUS THY LORD WILL PREFER THEE AND WILL TEACH THEE THE INTERPRETATION OF EVENTS. In as ONE PASSAGE because the dream, the caution about telling it, and the promise of interpretive skill are one exchange. ALSO CARRIED by What does the Qur'an say about dreams - and Joseph's gift of reading them?, with a different reason there.
- 04 8:43–44 When God showed them unto thee in thy dream AS FEW IN NUMBER, and if He had shown them to thee as many ye would have faltered... but God saved you. In as ONE PASSAGE because it describes a dream that was not accurate to the facts and states the reason - a true dream that was true to its purpose rather than to the count.
- 05 21:5 Nay, say they: MUDDLED DREAMS; nay, he hath but invented it; nay, he is but a poet. In because it records dreams being used as an ACCUSATION - the charge that the revelation was merely dreaming - which is the counterweight this study needs. ALSO CARRIED by the study What does the Qur'an say about the Prophet not being a poet or possessed?, with a different reason there.
In plain wordsEditorial written by the editors, not a translation
Yes - and the Qur'an is careful about it in ways a reader should see.
48:27 is the clearest: GOD HATH FULFILLED THE VISION FOR HIS MESSENGER IN VERY TRUTH. A dream about entering the sanctuary, stated as fulfilled.
37:102 goes further than any other verse: Abraham acts on a dream as a COMMAND. And 37:105 says he had ALREADY FULFILLED THE VISION at the point of consent.
12:4-6 has Joseph's dream, his father's immediate caution not to tell his brothers, and a promise that he will be taught THE INTERPRETATION OF EVENTS - which the rest of the surah then demonstrates.
But two things keep this from being a licence.
8:43 describes a dream that was NOT accurate: God showed the enemy to the Prophet AS FEW IN NUMBER, and the verse says plainly that had they been shown as many, the believers would have faltered. A true dream, given for an effect, not for information. Any account of dreams as guidance has to accommodate that.
And 21:5 records the accusation MUDDLED DREAMS - jumbled, confused visions - levelled at the revelation itself, alongside the charges of invention and poetry. The category of the misleading dream is in the text, in the mouths of opponents, and 12:44 uses the same phrase of the king's dream before Joseph reads it.
So the Qur'an records dreams that were true, one that was true but not literal, and a term for dreams that are not worth reading. It gives no method for telling them apart. The large body of material on dream interpretation is not Qur'anic, and no source for it has cleared the rights audit.
Scope of this study
This platform shows the verse, its easy-read line, its translations, a plain-words reading, and each verse among its neighbours. It does not supply occasion of revelation, interpretation (tafsir) or history, and it never invents them.
What this study does not answer, and which source would be needed. It does not say on what occasion any of these verses was given: this study holds no source whose usage rights can be verified. It does not report how any commentator has read them: this study holds no either - the Arabic of , and is public domain by age, but no English edition with verifiable usage rights exists. And it offers no academic-historical reading: this study holds no such scholarship. Each of those is an absence with a named cause, not an omission.
What this rests on
Opens with 48:27, widening across 5 passages in all.
Easy-read is a simplified pronunciation, not authoritative — a rule-by-rule romanisation, not a reading. Each verse ends in its pause form, as it is said when you stop there. Pauses inside a verse and other tajwid rules are not shown. It is derived from the Tanzil Simple edition, while the Arabic above is the Uthmani edition; both are cleared, but they are not the same edition and their orthography differs.

Allah hath fulfilled the vision for His messenger in very truth. Ye shall indeed enter the Inviolable Place of Worship, if Allah will, secure, (having your hair) shaven and cut, not fearing. But He knoweth that which ye know not, and hath given you a near victory beforehand
God truly verified for His Apostle the vision that ye shall verity enter the Sacred Mosque, if God please, in safety with shaven heads or cut hair, ye shall not fear; for He knows what ye know not, and He has set for you, beside that, a victory nigh at hand
Now hath God in truth made good to His Apostle the dream in which he said, "Ye shall surely enter the sacred Mosque, if God will, in full security, having your heads shaved and your hair cut: ye shall not fear; for He knoweth what ye know not; and He hath ordained you, beside this, a speedy victory

It is they who disbelieved, and barred you from the Sacred Mosque, and prevented the offering from reaching its destination. Were it not for faithful men and faithful women, whom you did not know, you were about to hurt them, and became guilty of an unintentional crime. Thus God admits into His mercy whomever He wills. Had they dispersed, We would have punished those who disbelieved among them with a painful penalty.
These it was who disbelieved and debarred you from the Inviolable Place of Worship, and debarred the offering from reaching its goal. And if it had not been for believing men and believing women, whom ye know not - lest ye should tread them under foot and thus incur guilt for them unknowingly; that Allah might bring into His mercy whom He will - If (the believers and the disbelievers) had been clearly separated We verily had punished those of them who disbelieved with painful punishment
Those who misbelieved and turned (you) away from the Sacred Mosque, and (turned away) the offering, kept from arriving at its destined place; and had it not been for believing men and believing women whom ye knew not, whom ye might have trampled on, and so a crime might have occurred to you on their account without your knowledge - that God may make whomsoever He pleases enter into His mercy. Had they been distinct from one another, we would have tormented those of them who misbelieved with grievous woe
These are they who believed not, and kept you away from the sacred Mosque, as well as the offering which was prevented from reaching the place of sacrifice. And had it not been that ye would have trodden down believers, both men and women, whom ye knew not, so that a crime might have lighted on you without your knowledge on their account, and that God would bring whom He will within His mercy, this would have been otherwise ordered. Had they been apart, we had surely punished such of them as believed not, with a sore punishment
These are they who believed not, and hindered you from visiting the holy temple, and also hindered the offering, being detained, that it should not arrive at the place where it ought to be sacrificed. Had it not been that ye might have trampled on divers true believers, both men and women, whom ye knew not, being promiscuously assembled with the infidels, and that a crime might therefore have lighted on you on their account, without your knowledge, He had not restrained your hands from them: But this was done, that God might lead whom He pleaseth into his mercy. If they had been distinguished from one another, we had surely chastised such of them as believed not, with a severe chastisement

Those who disbelieved filled their hearts with rage-the rage of the days of ignorance. But God sent His serenity down upon His Messenger, and upon the believers, and imposed on them the words of righteousness-of which they were most worthy and deserving. God is aware of everything.
When those who disbelieve had set up in their hearts zealotry, the zealotry of the Age of Ignorance, then Allah sent down His peace of reassurance upon His messenger and upon the believers and imposed on them the word of self-restraint, for they were worthy of it and meet for it. And Allah is Aware of all things
When those who misbelieved put in their hearts pique - the pique of ignorance - and God sent down His shechina upon His Apostle and upon the believers, and obliged them to keep to the word of piety, and they were most worthy of it and most suited for it; for God all things doth know
When the unbelievers had fostered rage in their hearts - the rage of ignorance (of heathens) - God sent down His peace on His Apostle and on the faithful, and stablished in them the word of piety, for they were most worthy and deserving of it: and God knoweth all things
When the unbelievers had put in their hearts an affected preciseness, the preciseness of ignorance, and God sent down his tranquillity on his apostle and on the true believers; and firmly fixed in them the word of piety, and they were the most worthy of the same, and the most deserving thereof: For God knoweth all things

Muhammad is the Messenger of God. Those with him are stern against the disbelievers, yet compassionate amongst themselves. You see them kneeling, prostrating, seeking blessings from God and approval. Their marks are on their faces from the effects of prostration. Such is their description in the Torah, and their description in the Gospel: like a plant that sprouts, becomes strong, grows thick, and rests on its stem, impressing the farmers. Through them He enrages the disbelievers. God has promised those among them who believe and do good deeds forgiveness and a great reward.
Muhammad is the messenger of Allah. And those with him are hard against the disbelievers and merciful among themselves. Thou (O Muhammad) seest them bowing and falling prostrate (in worship), seeking bounty from Allah and (His) acceptance. The mark of them is on their foreheads from the traces of prostration. Such is their likeness in the Torah and their likeness in the Gospel - like as sown corn that sendeth forth its shoot and strengtheneth it and riseth firm upon its stalk, delighting the sowers - that He may enrage the disbelievers with (the sight of) them. Allah hath promised, unto such of them as believe and do good works, forgiveness and immense reward
Mohammed is the Apostle of God, and those who are with Him are vehement against the misbelievers,- compassionate amongst themselves; thou mayest see them bowing down, adoring, craving grace from God and His goodwill,- their marks are in their faces from the effects of adoration;- that is their similitude in the law and their similitude in the gospel; as a seedling puts forth its sprouts and strengthens it, and grows stout, and straightens itself upon its stem, delighting the sower!- that the misbelievers may be angry at them;- God has promised those of them who believe and do right - forgiveness and a mighty hire
Muhammad is the Apostle of God; and his comrades are vehement against the infidels, but full of tenderness among themselves. Thou mayst see them bowing down, prostrating themselves, imploring favours from God, and His acceptance. Their tokens are on their faces, the marks of their prostrations. This is their picture in the Law, and their picture in the Evangel: they are as the seed which putteth forth its stalk; then strengtheneth it, and it groweth stout, and riseth upon its stem, rejoicing the husbandman - that the infidels may be wrathful at them. To such of them as believe and do the things that are right, hath God promised forgiveness and a noble recompense
Mohammed is the apostle of God: And those who are with him are fierce against the unbelievers, but compassionate towards one another. Thou mayest see them bowing down, prostrate, seeking a recompense from God, and his good will. Their signs are in their faces, being marks of frequent prostration. This is their description in the pentateuch, and their description in the gospel: They are as seed which putteth forth its stalk, and strengtheneth it, and swelleth in the ear, and riseth upon its stem; giving delight unto the sower. Such are the Moslems described to be: That the infidels may swell with indignation at them. God hath promised unto such of them as believe, and do good works, pardon and a great reward

12:4 Hani Yûsuf babasına şöyle demişti: “Babacığım, (rüyamda) on bir yıldız, Güneş'i ve Ay’ı gördüm.

Verily in Joseph and his brethren are signs (of Allah's Sovereignty) for the inquiring
In Joseph and his brethren were signs to those who enquire
Now in JOSEPH and his brethren are signs for the enquirers
Surely in the history of Joseph and his brethren there are signs of God's providence to the inquisitive

Recall when you were on the nearer bank, and they were on the further bank, and the caravan was below you. Had you planned for this meeting, you would have disagreed on the timing, but God was to carry out a predetermined matter, so that those who perish would perish by clear evidence, and those who survive would survive by clear evidence. God is Hearing and Knowing.
When ye were on the near bank (of the valley) and they were on the yonder bank, and the caravan was below you (on the coast plain). And had ye trysted to meet one another ye surely would have failed to keep the tryst, but (it happened, as it did, without the forethought of either of you) that Allah might conclude a thing that must be done; that he who perished (on that day) might perish by a clear proof (of His Sovereignty) and he who survived might survive by a clear proof (of His Sovereignty). Lo! Allah in truth is Hearer, Knower
When ye were on the near side of the valley, and they were on the far side, and the camels were below you; had ye made an appointment then ye would have failed to keep your appointment - but it was that God might accomplish a thing that was as good as done! that he who was to perish might perish with a manifest sign; and that he who was to live might live with a manifest sign; for, verily, God hears and knows
When ye were encamped on the near side of the valley, and they were on the further side, and the caravan was below you, if ye had made an engagement to attack ye would have failed the engagement; but ye were led into action notwithstanding, that God might accomplish the thing destined to be done: That he who should perish might perish with a clear token before him, and that he who liveth might live with it. And verily, God Heareth, Knoweth
When ye were incamped on the hithermost side of the valley, and they were incamped on the further side, and the caravan was below you; and if ye had mutually appointed to come to a battle, ye would certainly have declined the appointment; but ye were brought to an engagement without any previous appointment, that God might accomplish the thing which was decreed to be done, that he who perisheth hereafter may perish after demonstrative evidence, and that he who liveth may live by the same evidence God both heareth and knoweth

- Hafs/Kufan verse numbering, 6236 ayahs. The bismillah is delivered as a separate `bismillah` attribute on ayah 1 and is NOT fused into the ayah text. 112 surahs carry one: every surah except al-Fatiha, where the bismillah is ayah 1:1 itself, and at-Tawba, which has none. Sourced from the XML output; the plain-text output of the same release DOES fuse it, which is defect D1.

The selection above and this account of it are part of what was signed. Where the renderings disagree it says so; where the question runs past what has cleared the rights audit it says that too.
Read across the four public-domain translations - Sale 1734, Rodwell 1861, Palmer 1880, Pickthall 1930 - of 48:27, 37:102-105, 12:4-6, 8:43-44, 21:5, in full, and nothing else. This study consults no , no , no occasion of revelation and no biography, because none is yet available in an edition whose usage rights can be verified. Itani 2012, the fifth translation shown with these verses, was not consulted for this study.
How this set was arrived at. The verses were found by a word search of the four public-domain translations, using terms chosen by the editor and listed here as they were searched - god + fulfilled + the + vision + for + his + messenger + in + very + truth; i + have + seen + in + a + dream; muddled + dreams; the + interpretation + of + dreams; a + vision + in + truth. The search was a way of finding passages, not a judgement about what they mean: that several translators chose the same English word is not evidence about the Arabic. A different choice of terms gives a different set.
What was returned and not carried. 2 verse(s) the search qualified are recorded as not carried with a reason each, rather than silently discarded: 12:36 - carried by What does the Qur'an say about dreams - and Joseph's gift of reading them?; 12:44 - carried by What does the Qur'an say about dreams - and Joseph's gift of reading them?
Verses carried by more than one study. Some passages here also serve another study. Each carries its own reason in each place, and the reason states where else it appears.
Where the translations part company, named rather than resolved. How differently the translations word each verse is shown on that verse's page, and the study names the differences it turns on rather than choosing between them.
