I said, 'Ask your Lord for forgiveness; He is Forgiving.
Does the Qur'an promise worldly benefit - rain, wealth, children - for seeking forgiveness?
Key findingsEditorial
One finding for each passage this study carries, in the order the study reads them. Each is the reason that passage was signed into the study, in full and unedited - including, where the renderings disagree, the disagreement.
- 01 71:10–12 And I have said: SEEK PARDON OF YOUR LORD. Lo, He was ever Forgiving. HE WILL LET LOOSE THE SKY FOR YOU IN PLENTEOUS RAIN, AND WILL HELP YOU WITH WEALTH AND SONS, AND WILL ASSIGN UNTO YOU GARDENS AND WILL ASSIGN UNTO YOU RIVERS. In as ONE PASSAGE because it is the fullest promise of its kind in the Qur'an and it lists four worldly goods in order - rain, wealth, sons, and irrigated land.
- 02 11:52 And, O my people, ask forgiveness of your Lord, then turn unto Him repentant; HE WILL CAUSE THE SKY TO RAIN ABUNDANTLY ON YOU AND WILL ADD UNTO YOU STRENGTH TO YOUR STRENGTH. In because it repeats the promise in another prophet's mouth to another people, which makes it a pattern rather than a single case.
- 03 11:3 And: ask pardon of your Lord and turn to Him repentant. HE WILL CAUSE YOU TO ENJOY A FAIR ESTATE UNTIL A TIME APPOINTED, and will give His bounty to every bountiful one. In because it makes the same promise to the Prophet's own audience and puts a term on it - UNTIL A TIME APPOINTED.
- 04 65:2–3 And whosoever keepeth his duty to God, GOD WILL APPOINT A WAY OUT FOR HIM, AND WILL PROVIDE FOR HIM FROM WHENCE HE HATH NO EXPECTATION. In as ONE PASSAGE because it makes a worldly promise attached to duty rather than to asking forgiveness, and because the manner of the provision is unexpected.
In plain wordsEditorial written by the editors, not a translation
Yes, and the promise is unusually concrete.
71:10-12 is Noah speaking, and the list is worth reading item by item. Seek pardon of your Lord - and He will LET LOOSE THE SKY UPON YOU IN PLENTEOUS RAIN, and HELP YOU WITH WEALTH AND SONS, and ASSIGN YOU GARDENS AND RIVERS. Rain, money, children, and irrigated land. Nothing in the passage is about the hereafter.
It is not a one-off. 11:52 has Hud making the same offer to a different people: rain in abundance, AND STRENGTH ADDED TO YOUR STRENGTH. And 11:3 makes it to the Prophet's own audience: A FAIR ESTATE UNTIL A TIME APPOINTED.
Two things a careful reader should notice.
First, all three are addressed to COMMUNITIES, not individuals, and all three arrive in passages where a people is being called to turn from ruin. The promise is corporate in every instance.
Second, 11:3 attaches a limit the others do not: enjoyment UNTIL A TIME APPOINTED. The worldly good is explicitly finite.
65:2-3 is carried because it makes the nearest comparable promise on a different condition - keeping one's duty rather than asking forgiveness - and describes the provision as coming FROM WHENCE HE HATH NO EXPECTATION.
What the text does not do is guarantee any of this to a particular person who asks forgiveness on a particular day. It records prophets offering communities relief from drought and decline if they turn, and it puts a term on the offer.
Scope of this study
This platform shows the verse, its easy-read line, its translations, a plain-words reading, and each verse among its neighbours. It does not supply occasion of revelation, interpretation (tafsir) or history, and it never invents them.
What this study does not answer, and which source would be needed. It does not say on what occasion any of these verses was given: this study holds no source whose usage rights can be verified. It does not report how any commentator has read them: this study holds no either - the Arabic of , and is public domain by age, but no English edition with verifiable usage rights exists. And it offers no academic-historical reading: this study holds no such scholarship. Each of those is an absence with a named cause, not an omission.
What this rests on
Opens with 71:10–12, widening across 4 passages in all.
Easy-read is a simplified pronunciation, not authoritative — a rule-by-rule romanisation, not a reading. Each verse ends in its pause form, as it is said when you stop there. Pauses inside a verse and other tajwid rules are not shown. It is derived from the Tanzil Simple edition, while the Arabic above is the Uthmani edition; both are cleared, but they are not the same edition and their orthography differs.
The versesSource fact 4 passages, each with every cleared translation
4 passages, chosen for this question and signed as part of it. Each carries the reason it is here, and each renders in full: the Arabic, then every cleared translation of that verse under its translator's name.
Each verse opens on the translation that comes first in the site's fixed order, which runs from the newest translation to the oldest. The order is not a preference. Open Compare translations on any verse to read the others.

Sourced from the XML output; the plain-text output of the same release DOES fuse it, which is defect D1.

Ciò è quanto viene raccomandato a chi crede in Allāh e nell’ultimo Giorno.

Kim Allah’a tevekkül ederse, O kendisine yeter.

O Prophet! If any of you divorce women, divorce them during their period of purity, and calculate their term. And be pious before God, your Lord. And do not evict them from their homes, nor shall they leave, unless they have committed a proven adultery. These are the limits of God-whoever oversteps God's limits has wronged his own soul. You never know; God may afterwards bring about a new situation.
O Prophet! When ye (men) put away women, put them away for their (legal) period and reckon the period, and keep your duty to Allah, your Lord. Expel them not from their houses nor let them go forth unless they commit open immorality. Such are the limits (imposed by) Allah; and whoso transgresseth Allah's limits, he verily wrongeth his soul. Thou knowest not: it may be that Allah will afterward bring some new thing to pass
O thou prophet! when ye divorce women, then divorce them at their term, and calculate the term and fear God your Lord. Do not drive them out of their houses unless they have committed manifest adultery. These are God's bounds, and whoso transgresses God's bounds has wronged himself. Thou knowest not whether haply God may cause something fresh to happen after that
O PROPHET! when ye divorce women, divorce them at their special times. And reckon those times exactly, and fear God your Lord. Put them not forth from their houses, nor allow them to depart, unless they have committed a proven adultery. This is the precept of God; and whoso transgresseth the precept of God, assuredly imperilleth his own self. Thou knowest not whether, after this, God may not cause something new to occur which may bring you together again
O prophet, when ye divorce women, put them away at their appointed term; and compute the term exactly: And fear God, your Lord. Oblige them not to go out of their apartments, neither let them go out, until the term be expired, unless they be guilty of manifest uncleanness. These are the statutes of God: And whoever transgresseth the statutes of God, assuredly injureth his own soul: Thou knowest not whether God will bring something new to pass, which may reconcile them, after this

As for those of your women who have reached menopause, if you have any doubts, their term shall be three months-and also for those who have not yet menstruated. As for those who are pregnant, their term shall be until they have delivered. Whoever fears God-He will make things easy for him.
And for such of your women as despair of menstruation, if ye doubt, their period (of waiting) shall be three months, along with those who have it not. And for those with child, their period shall be till they bring forth their burden. And whosoever keepeth his duty to Allah, He maketh his course easy for him

What this study rests on, and what it refusessigned with it3 of the 4 paragraphs signed with this study; the paragraph naming what it does not answer is at the top of the page
The selection above and this account of it are part of what was signed. Where the renderings disagree it says so; where the question runs past what has cleared the rights audit it says that too.
Read across the four public-domain translations - Sale 1734, Rodwell 1861, Palmer 1880, Pickthall 1930 - of 71:10-12, 11:52, 11:3, 65:2-3, in full, and nothing else. This study consults no , no , no occasion of revelation and no biography, because none is yet available in an edition whose usage rights can be verified. Itani 2012, the fifth translation shown with these verses, was not consulted for this study.
How this set was arrived at. The verses were found by a word search of the four public-domain translations, using terms chosen by the editor and listed here as they were searched - ask + forgiveness + of + your + lord + he + will + send + down + rain; he + will + help + you + with + wealth + and + sons; cause + the + sky + to + rain + abundantly; enjoy + a + fair + estate + until + a + time + appointed. The search was a way of finding passages, not a judgement about what they mean: that several translators chose the same English word is not evidence about the Arabic. A different choice of terms gives a different set.
Where the translations part company, named rather than resolved. How differently the translations word each verse is shown on that verse's page, and the study names the differences it turns on rather than choosing between them.
