We have given you seven of the pairs, and the Grand Quran.
Does the Qur'an promise a specific reward for reciting particular surahs?
Key findingsEditorial
One finding for each passage this study carries, in the order the study reads them. Each is the reason that passage was signed into the study, in full and unedited - including, where the renderings disagree, the disagreement.
- 01 15:87 And We have given thee SEVEN OF THE OFT-REPEATED VERSES and the great Qur'an. This verse singles out a portion of the revelation — seven of the oft-repeated verses — without saying which portion it means and without attaching any reward to it.
- 02 35:29–30 Lo, those who READ THE SCRIPTURE OF GOD, and establish worship, and spend of that which We have bestowed on them secretly and openly, look forward to imperishable gain, that He will pay them their wages and increase them of His grace. The promise here attaches to reading the Scripture together with establishing worship and spending of what has been given — three things, not one.
- 03 7:204 And WHEN THE QUR'AN IS RECITED, GIVE EAR TO IT AND PAY HEED, that ye may obtain mercy. This verse attaches an outcome to hearing recitation, and the outcome is conditional: give ear and pay heed, that ye may obtain mercy.
- 04 73:20 He knoweth that ye count it not, and turneth unto you in mercy. RECITE, THEN, OF THE QUR'AN THAT WHICH IS EASY FOR YOU. The instruction here sets no quantity and names no portion — recite that which is easy for you — and its stated ground is that people could not keep the measure.
In plain wordsEditorial written by the editors, not a translation
The Qur’an encourages recitation, listening and reflection, but it does not assign named rewards to particular surahs. It praises those who recite God’s Book together with prayer and generosity (35:29–30), instructs people to listen attentively when the Qur’an is recited (7:204), and tells worshippers to recite what is manageable for them (73:20).
Qur’an 15:87 refers to ‘seven often repeated’ verses alongside the great Qur’an, but does not name the passage within the verse or attach a recitation reward to it. Specific claims—protection through the night, equivalence to a fraction of the Qur’an, particular benefits from particular surahs—come from , commentary or devotional tradition and must be assessed within those sources.
AALAMIN should state the distinction without devaluing tradition: general encouragement of recitation is Qur’anic; most surah-specific reward formulas are extra-Qur’anic reports. Each such claim should be linked to its actual source and reliability assessment rather than presented as wording found in the Qur’an.
Scope of this study
This platform shows the verse, its easy-read line, its translations, a plain-words reading, and each verse among its neighbours. It does not supply occasion of revelation, interpretation (tafsir) or history, and it never invents them.
What this study does not answer, and which source would be needed. It does not say on what occasion any of these verses was given: this study holds no source whose usage rights can be verified. It does not report how any commentator has read them: this study holds no either - the Arabic of , and is public domain by age, but no English edition with verifiable usage rights exists. And it offers no academic-historical reading: this study holds no such scholarship. Each of those is an absence with a named cause, not an omission.
What this rests on
Opens with 15:87, widening across 4 passages in all.
Easy-read is a simplified pronunciation, not authoritative — a rule-by-rule romanisation, not a reading. Each verse ends in its pause form, as it is said when you stop there. Pauses inside a verse and other tajwid rules are not shown. It is derived from the Tanzil Simple edition, while the Arabic above is the Uthmani edition; both are cleared, but they are not the same edition and their orthography differs.
The versesSource fact 4 passages, each with every cleared translation
4 passages, chosen for this question and signed as part of it. Each carries the reason it is here, and each renders in full: the Arabic, then every cleared translation of that verse under its translator's name.
Each verse opens on the translation that comes first in the site's fixed order, which runs from the newest translation to the oldest. The order is not a preference. Open Compare translations on any verse to read the others.

Then We passed the Book to those of Our servants whom We chose. Some of them wrong their souls, and some follow a middle course, and some are in the foremost in good deeds by God's leave; that is the greatest blessing.
Then We gave the Scripture as inheritance unto those whom We elected of Our bondmen. But of them are some who wrong themselves and of them are some who are lukewarm, and of them are some who outstrip (others) through good deeds, by Allah's leave. That is the great favour
Then we gave the Book for an inheritance to those whom we chose of our servants, and of them are some who wrong themselves, and of them are some who take a middle course, and of them are some who vie in good works by the permission of their Lord; that is great grace
Moreover, we have made the Book an heritage to those of our servants whom we have chosen. Some of them injure themselves by evil deeds; others keep the midway between good and evil; and others, by the permission of God, outstrip in goodness; this is the great merit
And We have given the book of the Koran in heritage unto such of our servants as We have chosen: Of them there is one who injureth his own soul; and there is another of them who keepeth the middle way; and there is another of them who out-strippeth others in good works, by the permission of God. Your Lord knows that you stay up nearly two-thirds of the night, or half of it, or one-third of it, along with a group of those with you. God designed the night and the day. He knows that you are unable to sustain it, so He has pardoned you. So read of the Quran what is possible for you. He knows that some of you may be ill; and others travelling through the land, seeking God's bounty; and others fighting in God's cause. So read of it what is possible for you, and observe the prayers, and give regular charity, and lend God a generous loan. Whatever good you advance for yourselves, you will find it with God, better and generously rewarded. And seek God's forgiveness, for God is Forgiving and Merciful.

Lo! thy Lord knoweth how thou keepest vigil sometimes nearly two-thirds of the night, or (sometimes) half or a third thereof, as do a party of those with thee. Allah measureth the night and the day. He knoweth that ye count it not, and turneth unto you in mercy. Recite, then, of the Qur'an that which is easy for you. He knoweth that there are sick folk among you, while others travel in the land in search of Allah's bounty, and others (still) are fighting for the cause of Allah. So recite of it that which is easy (for you), and establish worship and pay the poor-due, and (so) lend unto Allah a goodly loan. Whatsoever good ye send before you for your souls, ye will find it with Allah, better and greater in the recompense. And seek forgiveness of Allah. Lo! Allah is Forgiving, Merciful
Verily, thy Lord knows that thou dost stand up to pray nearly two-thirds of the night, or the half of it or the third of it, as do part of those who are with thee; for God measures the night and the day; He knows that ye cannot calculate it, and He turns relentant towards you. So read what is easy of the Qur'an. He knows that there will be of you some who are sick and others who beat about in the earth craving the grace of God, and others who are fighting in the cause of God. Then read what is easy of it and be steadfast in prayer, and give alms, and lend to God a goodly loan, for what ye send forward for yourselves of good ye will find it with God. It is better and a greater hire; and ask ye pardon of God: verily, God is forgiving, merciful
Of a truth, thy Lord knoweth that thou prayest almost two-thirds, or half, or a third of the night, as do a part of thy followers. But God measureth the night and the day: He knoweth that ye cannot count its hours aright, and therefore, turneth to you mercifully. Recite then so much of the Koran as may be easy to you. He knoweth that there will be some among you sick, while others travel through the earth in quest of the bounties of God; and others do battle in his cause. Recite therefore so much of it as may be easy. And observe the Prayers and pay the legal Alms, and lend God a liberal loan: for whatever good works ye send on before for your own behoof, ye shall find with God. This will be best and richest in the recompense. And seek the forgiveness of God: verily, God is forgiving, Merciful
Thy Lord knoweth that thou continuest in prayer and meditation sometimes near two third parts of the night, and sometimes one half thereof, and at other times one third part thereof: And a part of thy companions, who are with thee, do the same. But God measureth the night and the day; he knoweth that ye cannot exactly compute the same: Wherefore He turneth favourably unto you. Read, therefore, so much of the Koran as may be easy unto you. He knoweth that there will be some infirm among you; and others travel through the earth, that they may obtain a competency of the bounty of God; and others fight in the defence of God's faith. Read, therefore, so much of the same as may be easy. And observe the stated times of prayer, and pay the legal alms; and lend unto God an acceptable loan; for whatever good ye send before for your souls, ye shall find the same with God. This will be better, and will merit a greater reward. And ask God forgiveness; for God is ready to forgive, and merciful

So lest (bei Nacht), was euch vom Quran leichtfällt.
In verità Allāh è Perdonatore, Misericordioso.

Öyleyse Kur’an’dan (bildiğiniz) kolayınıza geleni okuyun.

The heaven will shatter thereby. His promise is always fulfilled.
The very heaven being then rent asunder. His promise is to be fulfilled
whereon the heaven cleaves - its promise shall be fulfilled
The very heaven shall be reft asunder by it: this threat shall be carried into effect
The heaven shall be rent in sunder thereby: The promise thereof shall surely be performed

This is a reminder. So whoever wills, let him take a path to his Lord.
Lo! This is a Reminder. Let him who will, then, choose a way unto his Lord
Verily, this is a memorial, and whoso will, let him take unto his Lord a way
Lo! this is a warning. Let him then who will, take the way to his Lord
Verily this is an admonition; and whoever is willing to be admonished, will take the way unto his Lord

What this study rests on, and what it refusessigned with it5 of the 6 paragraphs signed with this study; the paragraph naming what it does not answer is at the top of the page
The selection above and this account of it are part of what was signed. Where the renderings disagree it says so; where the question runs past what has cleared the rights audit it says that too.
Read across the four public-domain translations - Sale 1734, Rodwell 1861, Palmer 1880, Pickthall 1930 - of 15:87, 35:29-30, 7:204, 73:20, in full, and nothing else. This study consults no , no , no occasion of revelation and no biography, because none is yet available in an edition whose usage rights can be verified. Itani 2012, the fifth translation shown with these verses, was not consulted for this study.
How this set was arrived at. The verses were found by a word search of the four public-domain translations, using terms chosen by the editor and listed here as they were searched - seven + of + the + oft-repeated; recite + of + the + qur'an + that + which + is + easy; when + the + qur'an + is + recited + give + ear; they + recite + the + scripture + of + god. The search was a way of finding passages, not a judgement about what they mean: that several translators chose the same English word is not evidence about the Arabic. A different choice of terms gives a different set.
What was returned and not carried. 2 verse(s) the search qualified are recorded as not carried with a reason each, rather than silently discarded: 3:113 - about the People of the Scripture - carried by the studies What does the Qur'an say about Jews? and Who are the 'People of the Book' in the Qur'an?; 3:164 - about the sending, not recitation.
Where the translations part company, named rather than resolved. How differently the translations word each verse is shown on that verse's page, and the study names the differences it turns on rather than choosing between them.
Editorial revision. Reviewer: AALAMIN Remaining Studies Editorial Review, Volume 1. Version date: 2026-09-16. Correction history: the plain-words answer above replaces the version signed earlier, and this study's inclusion reasons were rewritten as plain English. The Arabic, the translations and the source receipts are unchanged.
