Faces on that Day will be radiant.
What does the Qur'an say about seeing God in paradise?
Key findingsEditorial
One finding for each passage this study carries, in the order the study reads them. Each is the reason that passage was signed into the study, in full and unedited - including, where the renderings disagree, the disagreement.
- 01 75:22–23 That day will faces be resplendent, LOOKING TOWARD THEIR LORD. In as ONE PASSAGE because the radiance and the looking are one statement, and because this is the verse the entire question rests on - two lines, and nothing else in the text is as direct.
- 02 80:38–39 On that day faces will be bright as dawn, laughing, joyous. In as ONE PASSAGE because it gives the same radiance WITHOUT the looking, which is the honest control on 75:22-23: the text can describe shining faces on that day without saying what they are shining at.
- 03 10:26 For those who do good is the best reward, AND MORE THERETO. In because the undefined increase - and more - is the other verse the vision is argued from, and because the text conspicuously declines to say what the more is.
- 04 83:15 Nay, but surely on that day they will be VEILED FROM THEIR LORD. In because it states the opposite condition for the rejectors, and a veiling implies an unveiling for someone - which is the strongest indirect argument in the set.
In plain wordsEditorial written by the editors, not a translation
Four passages, and the study should say at the outset that this is one of the oldest disputes in Muslim theology and that the text does not settle it.
75:22-23 is the verse: that day, faces resplendent, LOOKING TOWARD THEIR LORD. All four translators carry both the radiance and the looking. It is the strongest statement in the book and it is two lines long.
One thing complicates it.
80:38-39 describes exactly the same radiance - faces bright as dawn, laughing, joyous - with NO object of looking at all. So shining faces on that day are not, by themselves, evidence of a vision.
The two indirect arguments are 10:26 - the best reward AND MORE THERETO, with the more left undefined - and 83:15, which says the rejectors will be VEILED from their Lord that day. The second is the sharper: a veil drawn for some implies something not veiled for others.
Against all of this stands 6:103, which says vision does not comprehend Him - carried by Does the Qur'an say God can be seen?, along with Moses being told at 7:143 THOU WILT NOT SEE ME. Those verses concern this life and the mountain; whether they govern the hereafter is precisely the point in dispute.
This study reports the verses on both sides and does not adjudicate. Adjudicating means quoting the theologians who argued it for centuries, and no work of kalam and no has cleared the rights audit.
Scope of this study
This platform shows the verse, its easy-read line, its translations, a plain-words reading, and each verse among its neighbours. It does not supply occasion of revelation, interpretation (tafsir) or history, and it never invents them.
What this study does not answer, and which source would be needed. It does not say on what occasion any of these verses was given: this study holds no source whose usage rights can be verified. It does not report how any commentator has read them: this study holds no either - the Arabic of , and is public domain by age, but no English edition with verifiable usage rights exists. And it offers no academic-historical reading: this study holds no such scholarship. Each of those is an absence with a named cause, not an omission.
What this rests on
Opens with 75:22–23, widening across 4 passages in all.
Easy-read is a simplified pronunciation, not authoritative — a rule-by-rule romanisation, not a reading. Each verse ends in its pause form, as it is said when you stop there. Pauses inside a verse and other tajwid rules are not shown. It is derived from the Tanzil Simple edition, while the Arabic above is the Uthmani edition; both are cleared, but they are not the same edition and their orthography differs.
The versesSource fact 4 passages, each with every cleared translation
4 passages, chosen for this question and signed as part of it. Each carries the reason it is here, and each renders in full: the Arabic, then every cleared translation of that verse under its translator's name.
Each verse opens on the translation that comes first in the site's fixed order, which runs from the newest translation to the oldest. The order is not a preference. Open Compare translations on any verse to read the others.

Онима који чине добра дела припада лепа награда - Рај, а и више од тога! Њихова лица неће прекривати тама и потиштеност, они ће да буду становници Раја, у њему ће вечно да бораве.

The likeness of the present life is this: water that We send down from the sky is absorbed by the plants of the earth, from which the people and the animals eat. Until, when the earth puts on its fine appearance, and is beautified, and its inhabitants think that they have mastered it, Our command descends upon it by night or by day, and We turn it into stubble, as if it had not flourished the day before. We thus clarify the revelations for people who reflect.
The similitude of the life of the world is only as water which We send down from the sky, then the earth's growth of that which men and cattle eat mingleth with it till, when the earth hath taken on her ornaments and is embellished, and her people deem that they are masters of her, Our commandment cometh by night or by day and We make it as reaped corn as if it had not flourished yesterday. Thus do we expound the revelations for people who reflect
Verily, the likeness of this world's life is like water which we send down from the sky, and the plants of the earth, from which men and cattle eat, are mingled therewith; until when the earth puts on its gilding and is adorned, the people thereof think that they have power over it. Our order comes to it by night or day, and we make it as it were mown down - as though it had not yesterday been rich!- Thus do we detail the signs unto a people who reflect
Verily, this present life is like the water which we send down from Heaven, and the produce of the earth, of which men and cattle eat, is mingled with it, till the earth hath received its golden raiment, and is decked out: and they who dwell on it deem that they have power over it! but, Our behest cometh to it by night or by day, and we make it as if it had been mown, as if it had not teemed only yesterday! Thus make we our signs clear to those who consider
Verily the likeness of this present life is no other than as water, which We send down from heaven, and wherewith the productions of the earth are mixed, of which men eat, and cattle also, until the earth receive its vesture, and be adorned with various plants: The inhabitants thereof imagine that they have power over the same; but our command cometh unto it by night, or by day, and we render it as though it had been mown, as though it had not yesterday abounded with fruits. Thus do We explain our signs unto people who consider

As for those who have earned evil deeds: a reward of similar evil, and shame will cover them. They will have no defense against God-as if their faces are covered with dark patches of night. These are the inmates of the Fire, abiding therein forever.
And those who earn ill-deeds, (for them) requital of each ill-deed by the like thereof; and ignominy overtaketh them - They have no protector from Allah - as if their faces had been covered with a cloak of darkest night. Such are rightful owners of the Fire; they will abide therein
But, as for those who have earned ill, the reward of evil is the like thereof; abasement shall cover them! they shall have none to defend them against God;- as though their faces were veiled with the deep darkness of the night; these are the fellows of the Fire, and they shall dwell therein for aye
And as for those who have wrought out evil, their recompense shall be evil of like degree, and shame shall cover them - no protector shall they have against God: as though their faces were darkened with deep murk of night! These shall be inmates of the fire: therein they shall abide for ever
But they who commit evil shall receive the reward of evil, equal thereunto, and they shall be covered with shame, -- for they shall have no protector against God; -- as though their faces were covered with the profound darkness of the night. What this study rests on, and what it refusessigned with it5 of the 6 paragraphs signed with this study; the paragraph naming what it does not answer is at the top of the page
The selection above and this account of it are part of what was signed. Where the renderings disagree it says so; where the question runs past what has cleared the rights audit it says that too.
Read across the four public-domain translations - Sale 1734, Rodwell 1861, Palmer 1880, Pickthall 1930 - of 75:22-23, 80:38-39, 10:26, 83:15, in full, and nothing else. This study consults no , no , no occasion of revelation and no biography, because none is yet available in an edition whose usage rights can be verified. Itani 2012, the fifth translation shown with these verses, was not consulted for this study.
How this set was arrived at. The verses were found by a word search of the four public-domain translations, using terms chosen by the editor and listed here as they were searched - faces + radiant; looking + lord; gazing + lord; behold + lord; bright + looking. The search was a way of finding passages, not a judgement about what they mean: that several translators chose the same English word is not evidence about the Arabic. A different choice of terms gives a different set.
What was returned and not carried. 11 verse(s) the search qualified are recorded as not carried with a reason each, rather than silently discarded: 4:77 - matched on 'seeing'; the subject is fighting; 6:52 - seeking the Face in this life - carried by Are God's 'hand' and 'face' in the Qur'an literal or figurative?; 13:2 - matched incidentally; carried by the study What does the Qur'an say about the sun, the moon, and their orbits - and does it name a centre?; 16:54 - the subject is ingratitude after rescue; 16:86 - they behold their idols, not God; 25:20 - matched incidentally; 25:21 - it IS about seeing God, but as a scornful demand in this life; the verse answers that they think too highly of themselves. Not carried because including it would blur a study about the hereafter; 28:21 - Moses fleeing; 30:33 - carried by What does the Qur'an say about crying out to God in distress?; 36:51 - carried by What does the Qur'an say about the trumpet blast?; 84:15 - God looking at the man, not the man at God - the reverse of the question. Recorded because the reversal is easy to miss.
Where the translations part company, named rather than resolved. How differently the translations word each verse is shown on that verse's page, and the study names the differences it turns on rather than choosing between them.
Correction record, 2026-09-17. In the answer, a claim that 84:15 uses the same Arabic verb as 75:23 was removed; it is not only unsourced but contradicted by the site's own word analysis, which gives the two verses different roots. The verses shown and their translations are unchanged.
