O you who believe, remember God with frequent remembrance.
Where do the rewards of 'SubhanAllah, Alhamdulillah' come from - Qur'an, hadith, or folk?
Key findingsEditorial
One finding for each passage this study carries, in the order the study reads them. Each is the reason that passage was signed into the study, in full and unedited - including, where the renderings disagree, the disagreement.
- 01 33:41–42 O ye who believe, REMEMBER GOD WITH MUCH REMEMBRANCE, and glorify Him early and late. In as ONE PASSAGE because it is the general command and it sets no words, no count and no formula - only frequency and times of day.
- 02 29:45 Recite that which hath been inspired in thee of the Scripture, and establish worship. Lo, worship preserveth from lewdness and iniquity, BUT VERILY REMEMBRANCE OF GOD IS MORE IMPORTANT. In because it ranks remembrance above the prayer that contains it, which is the strongest statement in the set.
- 03 13:28 Who have believed and whose hearts have rest in the remembrance of God. VERILY IN THE REMEMBRANCE OF GOD DO HEARTS FIND REST. In because it names the effect, and the effect is not a quantity of reward. ALSO CARRIED by the study What does the Qur'an say about the heart finding rest in remembrance?, with a different reason there.
- 04 110:3 THEN HYMN THE PRAISES OF THY LORD, AND SEEK FORGIVENESS OF HIM. Lo, He is ever ready to show mercy. In because it is the one place two of the actual formulae appear as an instruction, at the close of the last revealed surah - praise and asking pardon, and no count.
- 05 17:110 Say: cry unto God, or cry unto the Beneficent, unto whichsoever ye cry, His are the most beautiful names. AND THOU, BE NOT LOUD-VOICED IN THY WORSHIP NOR YET SILENT THEREIN, BUT FOLLOW A WAY BETWEEN. In because it is the only instruction about the MANNER of such invocation and it prescribes a middle volume. ALSO CARRIED by the study What are the names and attributes of God in the Qur'an?, with a different reason there.
In plain wordsEditorial written by the editors, not a translation
The words themselves are Qur'anic. The counted rewards attached to them are not.
That distinction is the answer, and both halves matter.
The phrases a reader will know - glory be to God, praise be to God - appear throughout the Qur'an as instructions. 110:3: HYMN THE PRAISES OF THY LORD, AND SEEK FORGIVENESS OF HIM. 33:41: REMEMBER GOD WITH MUCH REMEMBRANCE. Six further near-identical instructions are recorded as drops. So the practice is commanded, repeatedly, and often with times of day attached - before sunrise, before sunset, in the night.
What is nowhere in the Qur'an is a COUNT, or a stated return for a stated number. No verse says a phrase repeated a given number of times earns a given reward, or plants a tree, or wipes out a given quantity of sin.
What the Qur'an says instead is about effect and rank.
29:45 makes the strongest claim: prayer restrains from indecency, BUT VERILY REMEMBRANCE OF GOD IS MORE IMPORTANT - greater, depending on the rendering. Remembrance is ranked above the prayer it sits inside.
13:28 names the effect: IN THE REMEMBRANCE OF GOD DO HEARTS FIND REST.
And 17:110 gives the only instruction about manner, and it is a moderation: NOT LOUD-VOICED NOR YET SILENT, BUT FOLLOW A WAY BETWEEN.
The counted virtues - the thirty-three after each prayer, the hundred in a day - are . This study cannot quote or grade any of it: no hadith collection has cleared the rights audit. What it can say is that the practice is Qur'anic, the arithmetic is not, and How do you tell a Qur'anic promise from a hadith virtue (fadila) from a folk claim? sets out how a reader can tell.
Scope of this study
This platform shows the verse, its easy-read line, its translations, a plain-words reading, and each verse among its neighbours. It does not supply occasion of revelation, interpretation (tafsir) or history, and it never invents them.
What this study does not answer, and which source would be needed. It does not say on what occasion any of these verses was given: this study holds no source whose usage rights can be verified. It does not report how any commentator has read them: this study holds no either - the Arabic of , and is public domain by age, but no English edition with verifiable usage rights exists. And it offers no academic-historical reading: this study holds no such scholarship. Each of those is an absence with a named cause, not an omission.
What this rests on
Opens with 33:41–42, widening across 5 passages in all.
Easy-read is a simplified pronunciation, not authoritative — a rule-by-rule romanisation, not a reading. Each verse ends in its pause form, as it is said when you stop there. Pauses inside a verse and other tajwid rules are not shown. It is derived from the Tanzil Simple edition, while the Arabic above is the Uthmani edition; both are cleared, but they are not the same edition and their orthography differs.
The versesSource fact 5 passages, each with every cleared translation
5 passages, chosen for this question and signed as part of it. Each carries the reason it is here, and each renders in full: the Arabic, then every cleared translation of that verse under its translator's name.
Each verse opens on the translation that comes first in the site's fixed order, which runs from the newest translation to the oldest. The order is not a preference. Open Compare translations on any verse to read the others.

Jedhi: “Allaah kadhaa yookiin Rahmaaniin kadhaa; kamiinuu yoo kadhattan Isaaf maqoota babbareedaa ta’antu jira. Salaata kee keessatti (baay’ee) sagalee kee ol hin fuudhin; (baay’ee) gadis hin qabatin. Giddu (lamaan) sanitti karaa barbaadadhu. [19]

The selection above and this account of it are part of what was signed. Where the renderings disagree it says so; where the question runs past what has cleared the rights audit it says that too.
Read across the four public-domain translations - Sale 1734, Rodwell 1861, Palmer 1880, Pickthall 1930 - of 33:41-42, 29:45, 13:28, 110:3, 17:110, in full, and nothing else. This study consults no , no , no occasion of revelation and no biography, because none is yet available in an edition whose usage rights can be verified. Itani 2012, the fifth translation shown with these verses, was not consulted for this study.
How this set was arrived at. The verses were found by a word search of the four public-domain translations, using terms chosen by the editor and listed here as they were searched - glorify + the + praises + of + thy + lord; hymn + the + praise + of + thy + lord; remembrance + of + god + is + greater; remember + god + with + much + remembrance; hallow + him + early + and + late. The search was a way of finding passages, not a judgement about what they mean: that several translators chose the same English word is not evidence about the Arabic. A different choice of terms gives a different set.
What was returned and not carried. 6 verse(s) the search qualified are recorded as not carried with a reason each, rather than silently discarded: 15:98 - near-identical instruction; recorded so the repetition is visible; 20:130 - near-identical, with times attached; 40:7 - carried by the studies What does the Qur'an say about God's mercy encompassing all things? and What does the Qur'an say about seeking forgiveness for others?; 40:55 - near-identical to 110:3; 50:39 - near-identical to 20:130; 52:48 - near-identical.
Verses carried by more than one study. Some passages here also serve another study. Each carries its own reason in each place, and the reason states where else it appears.
Where the translations part company, named rather than resolved. How differently the translations word each verse is shown on that verse's page, and the study names the differences it turns on rather than choosing between them.
